Type 5 Cargo Shuttle

The Type 5 Cargo Shuttle was designed in 2336. The general idea was to help increase the speed of cargo transfers between ship to shore as well as ship to ship. While transports are more then capable of moving bulk cargo quickly, there are occasion where the use of transports is deemed impractical. Such as when transferring hazardous materials or when transporter operations in impossible.

2336: Starfleet issues a brief for a new shuttle design. General brief is for a new large shuttle capible of transporting cargo or large numbers of personnel. Capible of low warp speeds. Able to be used by Starfleet's larger Starships.

2337: ASDB release a general idea to Starfleet for the Type-5 Cargo Shuttle.

2338: Exterior designed. Computer system, transporter system, and sensor installed. Design work completed and prototype begins construction

2339:
April: Basic space frame is laid out according to the design. Mini computer core from Jupiter Station designed and installed. Micro Cochrane engines installed.
July: Computer core is deemed operational and basic testing on the shuttle begins.
October: Ship passes all regulatory control and proceeds with testing.

2340: Ship is proved to be operational and Starfleet examines the performance. The Shuttle is officially commissioned. Starfleet places an order for 400 Cargo Shuttles to be distributed within the Federation.

Type 9 Shuttle

Relatively few Starfleet shuttlecrafts are capable of undertaking true interstellar journeys, and those that are tend to be the larger classes. Although Starfleet has occasionally requested the resources to correct this situation, such projects have never been a high priority and have tended to be cancelled in their early stages. It was 2368 before Starfleet finally decided to really push for a new design to correct this deficiency; in this year a request was made for a new type of shuttle capable of carrying one or two people across distances of several light years in relative comfort, or of carrying up to four persons on shorter duration missions. The speed requested was much higher than most previous vessels, in line with the general trend towards much faster vessels which has been a recent feature of all Starfleet designs after recent advances in warp propulsion technology.

The design process was implemented late in 2368 and was almost completed by early next year when Starfleet halted the program and reassessed its requirement. It was decided that several new features should be included in the craft; these included an increase from one to two micro torpedo launchers, a more capable onboard computer system, and a beefing up of the armament by the addition of two phaser arrays to the single emitter which had been the only beam weapon.

The first ships to try out this new construction philosophy under normal field conditions where the Intrepid class; the USS Intrepid replicated three Type 9 shuttles during her maiden voyage in 2370, and reported complete success with all three. When news of the predicament of the Intrepid class USS Voyager reached Starfleet in 2373 it was learned that the ship had lost several shuttles during their attempts to reach home, and had had to rely heavily on their ability to replicate new craft. Starfleet has viewed this as a triumphant vindication of the Type 9 concept, and has announced that this feature will be a basic requirement of all future small craft designs.

Although Starfleet headquarters has - naturally - not said as much, it is likely that the recent proliferation of fighter level craft during the Dominion War is due in large part to this new philosophy. It seems likely that new or modified fighter designs will have been circulated which are suitable for shipboard replication, allowing the use of Starships as mobile construction facilities. If true, this would increase the Federations production of fighters by at least tenfold at a stroke.

2366: Starfleet issues a brief for a new shuttle design. General brief is for a new shuttle. Capable of holding 6 crew in emergency situations. Capable of a maximum of warp 9 for 3 hours and ability to be fitted with light arms and shielding. To be able to be used by 90% of Starfleet's Starships.

2367: ASDB release a general idea to Starfleet for the Type-9 Shuttle. Project is rejected, but after redesign using data gathered by the Type-8 Shuttle design team, project is approved.

2368: Shuttle exterior designed. Up to date computer systems and sensors added. Design work completed and prototype begins construction

2369:
May: Basic space frame is laid out according to the design. Mini computer core from Jupiter Station designed and installed. Micro Cochrane engines installed. Micro Shield Generator installed. Micro Torpedo Tubes installed.

Type 11 Shuttle

The Type 11 Shuttlecraft is the new replacement for the old personal and cargo shuttles that was carried on the larger ships of the fleet. They are designed to add an extra capability and flexibility to the larger craft. Bio-neural gel packs have been included as standard, a step up from the Type 10 computer system which offers the gel packs as an upgrade only. Other technology incorporated is mostly centered around the warp core and nacelles.

2372:
May: Captain Picard of the USS Enterprise-E instructs his Chief Engineer, LtCdr. LaForge, to design a new Shuttle for the ship while the Enterprise is on it's shakedown cruise. LaForge takes data gathered by the crew of the USS Defiant on the Type-10 shuttle. Brief is drawn up for the craft; Capable of holding 10 crew in emergency situations, capable of a maximum of warp 9.8 for 3 hours, and ability to be fitted with light arms and shielding.
June: Shuttle exterior designed. Up to date computer systems, including Bio-neural gel packs, and sensors added. Design work completed and prototype begins construction.
October: Basic space frame is laid out according to the design. Mini computer core designed and installed. Micro Cochrane engines installed. Micro Shield Generator and torpedo launchers installed.
December: Warp engine is fitted, computer core is deemed operational and basic testing on the shuttle begins. Ship passes all regulatory control and proceeds with testing.Ship is proved to be operational and Starfleet examines the performance data. The Shuttle Craft is officially commission. Data included in Shuttle database for all ships to use. Starfleet places an order to 2000 craft to be built at Avalon Fleet Yards and distributed within the Federation.

Concord Class Personnel transport

The Concord class transport was developed during the first Cardassian war to serve as a personnel transport in areas which could not be reached by transporter. The Concord was deployed in large numbers through out the fleet operating out of larger vessels such as the ambassador, excelsior and later nebula class vessels. The Concord proved itself repeatedly, showing its ability to function with two of its three main engines disabled. As the Cardassian war ended demand decreased greatly, and many of the Concords were put into surplus holds, and sold for private use. The Federation kept 40 maintained and operational on a number of ships through out the fleet as well as 4 located at the Dargo IV training stations for marine deployment drills.

It appeared as though the concords days were numbered at the onset of the dominion war, however when the Cestus VII yards were destroyed Star fleet saw fit to refit the existing concords with newer shields, and higher output engines to keep pace with other small craft, greatly extending the service life of the craft. The Concord served through out the dominion war with the lightest losses of all small craft in service. The simple reliable design proved time and time again that the ship was a viable deployment platform.

The Concord was once again slated to be replaced after the end of the Dominion war, but the class was saved from the chopping block by the onset of the Borg war. The need to evacuate entire planets extremely quickly called for a tremendous number of transports. The Concord continued to exceed expectations, functioning in the worst conditions. Through the Borg war the Concord continuously received refits and upgrades.

The Chief draw back to the Concord was the fact that it lacked faster then light engines. This meant the concord was tied to either a ship or a central base of operations, and greatly cut the power available to ship systems which now relied on the power of the three fusion engines. How ever because the ship lacked a matter anti-mater reactor the concord would never need to worry about losing antimatter containment, or suffering a warp core breach.

2363:
June: With the onset of the Cardassian war, star fleet issued orders for a Personnel transport to replace the aging Devon class, capable of holding at least 30 fully armed personnel, atmospheric entry, soft landing, and taking sustained fire from larger vessels.
August: The Dupaul yards submit designs for the Concord class Marine transport. The Federation approved the design and design refinement and planning went into effect.
November: Three test craft are produced and put through standard field tests.

2364: The concord passes all field tests and is pressed into service. In action the Concord surpasses the expectations of even the designers proving itself time after time as dependable work horse.

2367: The Concord is put into moth balls, most of the fleet is privatized while some remain active and in stand-bye condition.

2374:
February: The Federation orders the Concord be brought back into service, and a refit is ordered.
April: Work on the design refit is compleat and production on the Concord resumes for the first time in 7 years new Concord class transports are produced, and supplied to front line ships.

2376: With the end of the Dominon war Vessel construction returns to normal rates. TheConcord is placed on Ice, and star fleet once again begines planes to replace the aging transport.

3781: Shortly after the Reman Nemesis events the invasion of the alpha quadrant by the Borg begins. The Concord takes on an evacuation role serving to facilitate the Federation retreat as the Borg advance.

2384-pressent: The Concord undergoes repeated refits, and continues to serve as the back bone of deployment. Star fleet has made no plans to retire the Concord in the forseable future.

Beowulf Refit Class Runabout

The Beowulf Class Interceptor has proven to be a very well liked, and successful design for the last six years. However, over that time, newer technologies were introduced and Starfleet believed they could improve an already good vessel. Deciding to simply refit the Beowulf class instead of creating an all new class Avalon Fleet Yards' R&D took a nearly complete Beowulf and began to tinker. They kept the same overall exterior design, but modified the 'nose' section, rearranged the weapons systems, Bridge, crew accommodations, and secondary systems.

The refit kept the four standard type-U phasers emitters, but only one phaser array, upgraded to Type-X. The 2 forward mounted micro quantum torpedo launchers were kept as well. However, the Beowulf Refit is capable of mounting a mission pod above the superstructure, much like the Nebula class starship. Only two Pods have been designed. One is a weapons pod with two additional torpedo launchers (one forward, one aft). The other pod has a very advanced sensor and communications suite. It allows the small craft to operate as a scout, mobile communications relay, or as a sensor/communications jammer. The interceptor also kept it's MLSS shielding and ablative armor, as well as a small Klingon cloaking device. Her top speed has been improved up to warp 9.65. She is manned by a crew of 12 and has two decks.

Starfleet Command has envisioned the new refit to slowly replace the current design, which is no longer being built. The current design will remain in service for several years to come however. Most of the newer vessels will be assigned to newly commissioned Starships and Starbases, or to replace other Beowulfs recently lost in action.

2378: Engineers at Avalon shipyards decide to refit improve the existing Beowulf Class Interceptor. The intent is to refit the current design, improving it's abilities with newer technology. To speed the project along, a nearly complete Beowulf is taken from it's construction pod and moved to the R&D complex to under go work.

2379:
February: USS Prevaricate is disassembled down to the chassis. Bridge location moved, crew accommodations reorganized, and weapons systems moved.
July: Bridge module installed. New location is forward, inside the 'nose' section instead of center of deck one. Current Beowulf class Bridge used.
August: Weapons and shield systems installed.
November: Bridge module is attached. Small crew area installed.

2380:
March: Warpcore finally arrives. Preliminary testing of all systems complete.
June: Ship completes its first warp jump. Testing of basic systems continues. Four more of the class are begun.
September Testing complete. Ship receives warp stress coating and markings.
December: The USS Prevaricate is commissioned at Avalon Fleet Yards.

Mustang Class Runabout

Designed to replace the aging Repulse class combat runabout, the Mustang class is smaller then the Repulse, but packs a bigger punch. They can achieve a maximum speed of warp 8.95 for 4.5 hours. They are armed with 6 type-XI phaser arrays and 4 Micro quantum torpedo launchers. They also have regenerative shielding.

In mid 2378, Starfleet felt the aging Repulse class had seen better days. The Repulse was designed in 2370 and had been in service since 2372. She had been, and is still a successful design, however her size was a downside of the class. It meant that only the largest of ships, and of course starbases, could use the class. Starfleet Command believed that using new technology and reducing the size of the vessel would make it more useful and versatile. Production of the Repulse ended in January 2379. The current vessels in service will remain active though at least 2390 while the Mustang class is placed into production and significant numbers built.

2378:
December: Starfleet issues a brief for a replacement of the Repulse. General brief is as follows. A smaller version of the Repulse Class Runabout capable of holding 25 crew in emergency situations. Capable of a maximum speed above of warp 8 and fitted with heavy armaments and shields. To be able to transport people into and out of hazardous areas.

2379:
March: ASDB release a general idea to Starfleet initially coded the Mustang Class. Project is approved.
October: Design work completed and prototype begins construction

2380:

January: Basic space frame is laid out according to the design. Repulse class computer core. Improved warp engine is also developed.
April: Warp engine is fitted, computer core is deemed operational and basic testing on the vessel begins.
August: Ship passes all regulatory control and proceeds with testing.

Delta Flyer Class Runabout

Designed and built by the USS Voyagers crew, the Delta Flyer is intended to be a multi-purpose vessel along the lines of a Runabout. The craft incorporates many systems unique to a Starfleet design, a result of the Borg and other technology Voyager has experienced on its journey home. The hull of the Delta Flyer is highly aerodynamic, and is composed of tetraburnium alloys with parametallic plating. The layout is fairly conventional, a large cabin occupies the front portion, with the engineering section aft feeding nacelles to port and starboard. The EPS conduits in the plasma manifold are isomagnetic, minimizing power losses and increasing engine efficiency. There is a small cargo bay and transporter system installed in the flyer, along with the various systems usually associated with a vessel of this type. The area where the Delta Flyer differs most from other Starfleet designs is in the defence systems. The unimatrix shielding was developed by Lieutenant Commander Tuvok, while the weapons array developed by Seven of Nine is based on Borg technology and includes photonic missiles. While most of the Delta Flyers control systems are conventional, the helm controls are based on those of early to mid 20th century aircraft, a choice made by Lieutenant Paris for aesthetic reasons. On the Flyer's first mission it successfully rescued an advanced probe from deep within a gas giants atmosphere, and was subsequently a valuable asset for Voyager. However, the Flyer underwent its share of mishaps, in 2375 the vessel crash-landed on a hostile planet after encountering a severe ion storm, and in 2376 the Flyer was briefly inside a subspace ellipse. The ship was badly damaged again when a dark matter life form attacked it, but was able to escape without any fatalities. Unfortunately, 2376 proved to be the original Flyer's final year in service. Towards the end of the year Captain Janeway led a mission to infiltrate a Borg cube using the flyer, and it was detected and destroyed by the Queen. A replacement was subsequently constructed. After learning and studying the Flyer's specs, sent to Starfleet via Datastream transmission and later when Voyager returned to Earth, Starfleet decided to put the class in limited production. Starfleet's 4th Fleet will test the craft on a large scale for the next few years. The first of the production flyers was assigned to the USS Pegasus and named USS Apollo.

2374:
September: Tom Paris, in his free time, begins to design a new craft for USS Voyager. This craft will be a runabout. It's design is inspired because of the overwhelming high loss rate of the ship's shuttlecraft.

2375:
March: LtCdr. Tuvok designs a new shielding for the class. Unimatrix shielding will protect the craft better then any runabout has ever had. At the same time, Seven of Nine, using Borg technoligy, designs the weapons for the class. She using Federation phaser and Borg photonic missiles. Paris and an engineering team begin construction of the Flyer.
April: The ship launchs for the first time on a mission to rescue an advanced probe from deep within a gas giants atmosphere.

Warhammer Class Runabout
The Intimidator Refit Is Equipped with 6 of these craft

The Warhammer class was designed to work as a larger companion to Federation Fighters as well as a smaller escort for the Beowulf Interceptor. Well armed, maneuverable, fast. Designed to attack larger ships en-mass, and hit them from all angles. The ship can also be used to transport VIPs in possibly dangerous areas.

The sensing equipment the interceptor uses has been equipped with is designed primarily for intelligence gathering, and offensive/defensive targeting systems. Visual data of impressive resolution is readily obtained from orbit, and the ship has been equipped with a stripped down and modified version of a Danube-class runaboutís sensor pallet to get more tactical data at the expense of scientific operations. The interceptor can emit a powerful jamming signal, although this cuts its own communications as well as that of other ships nearby. The micro-torpedoes can be directly linked to the runaboutís computer, and can usually hit a ground target from orbit to within ten feet, depending on atmospheric conditions.

Limitations: The ship is designed for brief deployments, and can only operate on its own for a few hours before having to return to base. It has a limited warp drive that makes interstellar flight difficult for extended periods of time. An extensive use of weapons and sensors can drain power from the inertial dampening systems, resulting in a bumpy ride on occasion. When destroyed, particularly while carrying

A full compliment of torpedoes, the resulting explosion can damage other vessels close-by. In comparison to the Danube-class runabout, it is more powerful and twice as heavily armed and shielded. This comes with the price of reduced range and scientific capability but this is a small price in view all gained.

2376: January: CO and crew of the USS Tolkien submits a brief for a fourth class of fighter. General brief is as follows. Well armed space-superiority fighter also capable of entering a planets atmosphere and able to give fire support to troops on the ground. Must be a highly maneuverable craft, capable be handling a multitude of roles and attacking a variety of targets. Must be able to achieve a maximum of warp 6 for a short period of time and fitted with shields and weapons.

Febuary: ASDB approved the general idea. Design work begins at Avalon Fleet Yards.

April: Design work is completed and prototype begins construction. Basic space frame is laid out according to the design. Mini computer core installed. A "heavy" version of the Rogue class Micro Cochrane engine is used in the Class.

May: Warp engine is fitted, because of the increased size and mass, the fighter experiences a sharp drop in . Computer core is deemed operational and basic testing on the Fighter begins.

June: Ship passes all regulatory control and proceeds with testing.

Argo Class Runabout
The Intimidator Refit Is Equipped with 2 of these craft

The Argo is a specialized shuttlecraft developed by the crew of the Enterprise-E for ferrying cargo and vehicles between orbit and planetary surfaces when conditions preclude the use of transporters. The design is fairly conventional, though the nacelles are more integrated with the body than is usually the norm for Federation shuttles.

The Argo has been designed with a range of vehicles. Most prominent among these is a wheeled general purpose vehicle designed to enable away teams to cover larger areas of ground than they would otherwise be able to. The vehicle is fitted with a phaser cannon to provide a limited defensive capability.

Since it's introduction to the bulk of Starfleet, several uses have been found for the Argo class. From support for Away Teams on the surface of a planet, to air and group support for Marines. Even though the ground vehicle is lightly armed and armored, it still allows teams to move much quicker then if they hiked/marched, while allowing them to carry additional equipment.

2377:
September: Following a rescue mission to a planet near the Regula Badlands that has a high level of ionization in the atmosphere that prevented transporter use, LtCdr. LaForge and LtCdr. Data designed a new runabout that would allow transport of equipment as well as a wheeled vehicle to transport over vast distances planet-side. A design brief is presented to Capt. Picard, whom takes great interest in the craft and quickly approves it's construction and testing.
December: Data gathered from computer testing, and construction begins aboard the Enterprise-E. Captain Picard names vessel and wheeled vehicle, USS Argo. LtCdr. Data designs hand-held remote control for craft that can be used from the wheeled vehicle in emergency situations.

2378:
March: Construction finished. Computer core, weapons systems, engines all installed. Warp engine is fitted, computer core is deemed operational and basic testing on the ship begins.
July: Ship passes all regulatory control and proceeds with testing. Newly arrived LtCdr. Worf recommends modified phaser cannon to be added to wheeled vehicle in cases of hostile encounters. He and Commander Riker spend month modifying the weapon, mounting, and testing it, while Enterprise-E returns to Earth.
September: Just prior to arriving in the Sol System, the USS Argo is proved to be operational and Starfleet examines the performance reports. The runabout is officially commission as USS Argo and Starfleet places an order to 500 to be distributed within the Federation.

Iron Horse Class Runabout
The Intimidator Refit Is Equipped with 6 of these craft

The Iron Horse Runabout was designed to provide logistical support for Federation troupes deployed to areas not accessible by ground vehicle. The Iron Horse is capable of hauling a variety of craft and containers as well as other damaged shuttle pods in combat situations.

Introduced during the first Cardasian war the Iron Horse was designed to compliment the Concord Class transport. The iron horse would move supplies and vehicles to federation soldiers. The Iron Horse gained its name as the work horse of federation logistical operations during the Dominion War. She lacked the beauty of a fighter, but when a Iron horse appeared on the horizon people knew help was on the way. The Iron Horse participated in beach head operations through out the Dominion war, but was like the concord slated to be scrapped. The Borg war would breathe new life blood into the Iron horse, and after years of successful operation Star fleet Logistics refused to allow the brass to scrap the design.

2363:
June: With the onset of the Cardassian war, starfleet issued orders for a Cargo transport to replace the aging Nile class, capable of transporting a type III shuttle, atmospheric entry, soft landing, and taking sustained fire from larger vessels.
August: The Dupaul yards submit designs for the Iron Horse Class Runabout. The Federation approved the design and design refinement and planning went into effect.
November: Three test craft are produced and put through standard field tests.

2364: The Iron Horse passes all field tests and is pressed into service. In action the Iron Horse surpasses the expectations of even the designers proving itself time after time as dependable work horse.

2367: The Iron horse is put into moth balls, most of the fleet is privatized while some remain active and in stand-bye condition.

2374: February: The Federation orders the Iron Horse be brought back into service, and a refit is ordered.
April: Work on the design refit is complete and production on the Concord resumes for the first time in 7 years new Concord class transports are produced, and supplied to front line ships.

2376: With the end of the Dominon war Vessel construction returns to normal rates. The Iron Horse is placed on Ice, and star fleet once again begins planes to replace the aging transport.

3781: Shortly after the Reman Nemesis events the invasion of the alpha quadrant by the Borg begins. The Iron Horse takes on an evacuation role serving to facilitate the Federation retreat as the Borg advance.

2384-pressent: The Iron Horse undergoes repeated refits, and continues to serve as the back bone of deployment. Star fleet has made no plans to retire the Iron Horse in the foreseeable future.
