Departments

Command
The Command department is ultimately responsible for the ship and its crew, and those within the department are responsible for commanding the vessel and representing the interests of Starfleet.

Flight Control
Responsible for the navigation and flight control of a vessel and its auxiliary craft, the Flight Control department includes pilots trained in both starship and auxiliary craft piloting. Flight control has also been expanded to include fighter pilots tho they are still given marine rankings.

Shuttle bay Opperations
Shuttle bay operations is responsible for handling all shuttle traffic on board a Star Ship as well as the construction, modification, repair, and recovery of fighters, shuttles, and runabouts. Shuttle Bay Operations is also responsible for determining the cause of any malfunction onboard a small craft or star ship. Shuttle Bay Operations is expected to keep all small craft up to Starfleet specifications during any situation.

Strategic Operations
The Strategic Operations department acts as an advisory to the command staff, as well as a resource of knowledge and information concerning hostile races in the operational zone of the ship, as well as combat strategies and other such things.

Intelligence
The Intelligence department is responsible for gathering and providing intelligence as it becomes possible during a mission; during covert missions, the intelligence department also takes a more active role, providing the necessary classified and other information.

Tactical
The tactical department is responsible for managing the over all tactical readiness of the vessel as well as research and implementation of any ship board weapons modifications.

Military Police
The Military police are responsible for ship based security as well as maintaining discipline throughout the ship, and report directly to the commanding officer. MPs are stationed aboard vessels only during war time operations, and only aboard Vessels which routinely see front line action. Military Police Personnel receive more rigorous combat and weapons training then traditional ship board security forces, and are certified to use all field issue small arms. The Military Police are also qualified to handle off vessel policing actions where civilian or hostile non-combatants are involved.

Engineering
The engineering department has the enormous task of keeping the ship working; they are responsible for making repairs, fixing problems, and making sure that the ship is ready for anything.

Operations
The operations department is responsible for keeping ship systems functioning properly, rerouting power, bypassing relays, and doing whatever else is necessary to keep the ship operating at peak efficiency.

Science
From sensor readings to figuring out a way to enter the strange spacial anomaly, the science department is responsible for recording data, testing new ideas out, and making discoveries.

Medical & Counseling
The medical & counseling department is responsible for the mental and physical health of the crew, from running annual physicals to combatting a strange plague that is afflicting the crew to helping a crew member deal with the loss of a loved one.

Marine Detachment - The Reapers
When the standard security detail is not enough, marines come in and clean up; the marine detachment is a powerful tactical addition to any ship, responsible for partaking in personal combat, from sniping to melee.
Marine Commanding Officer
(Department Head)
In charge of the marine detachment aboard a Starfleet vessel or facility, s/he reports to the CO and is responsible for administering the detachment and leading marine missions.
Detachment Deputy Commander Responsible for assisting the Detachment Commander in the running of the marine detachment, the Deputy serves as the Commander''s first officer, carrying out administrative tasks so that the Commander can command and not be weighed down by details. S/he also leads many missions.
Company Commander On large ships/facilities with more than two platoons, the company commander is incharge of a marine company, normally consisting of two to four platoons.
First Sergeant Each detachment has a First Sergeant, the highest ranking NCO in the platoon, who serves as disciplinarian, and is incharge of enlisted affairs within the platoon.
Claymore Platoon Commander Responsible for running a platoon within the detachment, the platoon commander often leads tactical incursions.
Claymore alpha Squad Leader Responsible for running a squad within a platoon, the squad leader reports to his/her platoon commander and is responsible for leading his squad during tactical engagements.
Marine-Claymore Squad alpha Serving within a squad, the marine is trained in a variety of means of combat, from melee to ranged projectile to sniping.
Claymore Beta Squad Leader Responsible for running a squad within a platoon, the squad leader reports to his/her platoon commander and is responsible for leading his squad during tactical engagements.
Marine-Claymore Squad Beta Serving within a squad, the marine is trained in a variety of means of combat, from melee to ranged projectile to sniping.
Sabre alpha Squad Leader Responsible for running a squad within a platoon, the squad leader reports to his/her platoon commander and is responsible for leading his squad during tactical engagements.
Marine-Sabre Squad alpha Serving within a squad, the marine is trained in a variety of means of combat, from melee to ranged projectile to sniping.
Sabre Beta Squad Leader Responsible for running a squad within a platoon, the squad leader reports to his/her platoon commander and is responsible for leading his squad during tactical engagements.
Marine-Sabre Squad beta Serving within a squad, the marine is trained in a variety of means of combat, from melee to ranged projectile to sniping.

Military Intelligence Operator An operator of the Marine Military Intelligence division.
Thunder Cats
The Thunder Cats Are an elite group of fighter pilots stationed on the vendetta. They are responsible for piloting the various fighters in ship to ship battles, as well as providing escort for shuttles, and runabouts. The Thunder cats have two squadrons stationed on the vendetta, which take shifts, insuring a fighter squadron is always at stand by.

Diplomatic Corps
Responsible for representing the Federation and its interest, members of the Diplomatic Corps are members of the civilian branch of the Federation.

Civilians
Ranging from the cook to the teacher to the passenger, the civilians are not really a department, but more an everything else class into which all non-military personnel (besides diplomats) fall. After the borg war civilian trafic on federation ships fell drasticly how ever with the aperant peace civilians have started to return to federation ships.
