The Command department is ultimately responsible for the ship and its crew, and those within the department are responsible for commanding the vessel and representing the interests of Starfleet.

Flight Control
Responsible for the navigation and flight control of a vessel and its auxiliary craft, the Flight Control department includes pilots trained in both starship and auxiliary craft piloting. Flight control has also been expanded to include fighter pilots tho they are still given marine rankings.

Shuttle bay Opperations
Shuttle bay operations is responsible for handling all shuttle traffic on board a Star Ship as well as the construction, modification, repair, and recovery of fighters, shuttles, and runabouts. Shuttle Bay Operations is also responsible for determining the cause of any malfunction onboard a small craft or star ship. Shuttle Bay Operations is expected to keep all small craft up to Starfleet specifications during any situation.
Deck Master
(Department Head)
The deck master is in charge of operation with in the shuttle bay. Activities ranging from shuttle up keep to traffic flow control fall under his command. In a crunch the Deck master needs to be able to coordinate the movements of the shuttles to avoid accidents well being able to keep a high volume of vehicles moving. This is especially true both well docked in star base and well taking on evacuations/situations where massive amounts of shuttle activity is required.
Deck Master's Assistant Often an NCO the deck masters assistant is in charge of helping to keep shuttles and other small craft in good working order. He is also in assigned the task of basic shuttle bay maintenance. The deck Masters Assistant often takes control of one of the secondary shuttle bays managing shuttle activities there.
Aero space engineer This officer NCO or other wise is the chief designer aside from the deck master on all new shuttles and fighters. Often extremely experienced, and fielded from a shuttle design center. If the need arises the ASE builds single function craft to fulfill a specific mission objective.
Wreck analysis technician When a shuttle or other small is destroyed the Wreck analysis technician is chiefly responsible for determining what caused the vessels destruction. The Wreck analysis technician may also be called upon to inspect large pieces of debris to determine the cause of damage or destruction. The Wreck analysis technician will then make suggestions to improve craft design to the deck master.
Shuttle construction technician Once plans and specifications for a new small craft are completed the grunt work falls to the Shuttle construction technician. The Shuttle construction technician works with a small team of engineers, specialists, and other personal to assemble a finished product. Well not the prettiest job the Shuttle construction technician can take great pride in each craft he completes being like no other in the galaxy.
Fighter Technician A The fighter Technician is a dedicated fighter maintenance specialist. The fighter technicians are responsible for the operation of the ships fighter squadron, and must report both to the deck master and fighter squadron commander. They must be well rounded and able to maintain almost every aspect of the fighters.
Fighter Technician B The fighter Technician is a dedicated fighter maintenance specialist. The fighter technicians are responsible for the operation of the ships fighter squadron, and must report both to the deck master and fighter squadron commander. They must be well rounded and able to maintain almost every aspect of the fighters.
Strategic Operations
The Strategic Operations department acts as an advisory to the command staff, as well as a resource of knowledge and information concerning hostile races in the operational zone of the ship, as well as combat strategies and other such things.

The Intelligence department is responsible for gathering and providing intelligence as it becomes possible during a mission; during covert missions, the intelligence department also takes a more active role, providing the necessary classified and other information.

The tactical department is responsible for managing the over all tactical readiness of the vessel as well as research and implementation of any ship board weapons modifications.

Military Police
The Military police are responsible for ship based security as well as maintaining discipline throughout the ship, and report directly to the commanding officer. MPs are stationed aboard vessels only during war time operations, and only aboard Vessels which routinely see front line action. Military Police Personnel receive more rigorous combat and weapons training then traditional ship board security forces, and are certified to use all field issue small arms. The Military Police are also qualified to handle off vessel policing actions where civilian or hostile non-combatants are involved.

The engineering department has the enormous task of keeping the ship working; they are responsible for making repairs, fixing problems, and making sure that the ship is ready for anything.

The operations department is responsible for keeping ship systems functioning properly, rerouting power, bypassing relays, and doing whatever else is necessary to keep the ship operating at peak efficiency.

From sensor readings to figuring out a way to enter the strange spacial anomaly, the science department is responsible for recording data, testing new ideas out, and making discoveries.

Medical & Counseling
The medical & counseling department is responsible for the mental and physical health of the crew, from running annual physicals to combatting a strange plague that is afflicting the crew to helping a crew member deal with the loss of a loved one.

Marine Detachment - The Reapers
When the standard security detail is not enough, marines come in and clean up; the marine detachment is a powerful tactical addition to any ship, responsible for partaking in personal combat, from sniping to melee.

Thunder Cats
The Thunder Cats Are an elite group of fighter pilots stationed on the vendetta. They are responsible for piloting the various fighters in ship to ship battles, as well as providing escort for shuttles, and runabouts. The Thunder cats have two squadrons stationed on the vendetta, which take shifts, insuring a fighter squadron is always at stand by.

Diplomatic Corps
Responsible for representing the Federation and its interest, members of the Diplomatic Corps are members of the civilian branch of the Federation.

Ranging from the cook to the teacher to the passenger, the civilians are not really a department, but more an everything else class into which all non-military personnel (besides diplomats) fall. After the borg war civilian trafic on federation ships fell drasticly how ever with the aperant peace civilians have started to return to federation ships.
